Land Use Planning Technician

Job Description
Planscape Inc. in Bracebridge ON is looking for a professional responsible for supporting planners and other staff in land use planning activities to join our team. This role involves a combination of technical expertise, analytical skills, and a strong understanding of planning principles and regulations. The position requires effective communication and collaboration with various stakeholders, including government agencies, developers, and the public.
The position is a flexible hybrid based on applicant preference. Physical attendance at the office is required on a regular basis but the position has remote flexibility and may require attendance at public meetings, site visits, and occasional travel within the area.
Key Responsibilities
Data Collection and Analysis: Gather, compile, and analyze land use data from various sources, including maps, surveys, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
Report Preparation: Assist in the preparation of planning reports, technical documents, and presentations to support planning decisions and projects.
Plan Review and Evaluation: Review development applications, site plans, and zoning by-law amendments for compliance with local, regional, and provincial planning policies on behalf of public or private clients as part of the process for obtaining land use approvals.
Mapping and GIS: Create and maintain maps using GIS software to support planning projects and land use analysis. Prepare site plans for use in applications.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that planning activities comply with relevant municipal, provincial, and federal regulations and guidelines.
Collaboration: Work collaboratively with planners, engineers, architects, and other professionals to support comprehensive planning initiatives. Provide multi-client support to Planners within the office.
Qualifications and Skills
Education: Diploma or degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Environmental Studies, or a related field.
Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in land use planning or a related field.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in GIS software, data management, and analysis tools. CAD drawing capabilities are an asset.
Knowledge: Understanding of Ontario’s planning legislation, policies, and procedures.
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration and public engagement.
Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret and analyze complex data and present findings clearly and concisely.
Attention to Detail: Keen eye for detail to ensure accuracy in data collection, analysis, and reporting.
Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills to address planning issues and propose practical solutions.

A Land Use Planning Technician has opportunities for career advancement through gaining additional experience, certifications, or education. Progression can lead to more senior or specialized roles. Compensation to be determined based on experience and expertise in the range of $30 - $40 / hr. A minimum of 37.5 hours per week is required.
